Revisiting who I am, and why I’m blogging

I decided to enroll in two free, online blogging courses in hopes of some inspiration and motivation to blog again. I didn’t pick the best timing since I got a new apartment in January and haven’t figured out WiFi yet…but, I figured I’d still take a shot at it. The first topic is to introduce myself to the world. I have been blogging for about two years, so this isn’t my first introduction on my blog, but rather me revisiting who I am and why I decided to blog in the first place.

I’ve changed a lot since I started this blog. Prior to starting this blog, I only used Tumblr, and though I wanted to write and share my thoughts with the online world, it was intimidating at first. I was a very shy person and didn’t know how to express myself. Though I always loved writing, it wasn’t until I found out I would be studying abroad in Barcelona for the summer before my senior year of college that I started this blog. I wanted to document the experiences before and during my trip. I wanted to also share my opinions and ideas with others. Being abroad opened my mind to many new ideas and cultures and I loved having a place to share my thoughts, as well as my many photographs! Continue reading

Mother’s Day – Have you thanked your mom today?

To all of the mothers out there: We (your children) don’t thank you enough for the things you do. We take every little thing you do for granted, and we forget our thank yous, and we expect too much of you. While Mother’s Day is yet another “Hallmark” holiday, it is a necessary one, but we shouldn’t only dedicate one day of the year to our mothers, and the hard work they do. Continue reading

Life back in the U.S.

I’ve been back home for almost two weeks, and what a crazy two weeks it has been! I had a safe trip home, with a layover in Paris (the literally the most expensive airport I have every been to!). I got through U.S. Customs without any problems, and my bottles of wine and wine glasses all made it safely, so I was pretty happy! Continue reading

A post written on the plane to Barcelona

I wrote this on the long, nine hour (or more) flight to Barcelona during the time we had to wait to depart.

The flight to Barcelona from Atlanta is starting off with a short delay. But nonetheless, in another 9 hours or so, I will be arriving in Barcelona and will begin my summer journey. Although I am one to rarely get homesick, it is still hard to say good byes to family and friends before a long trip. It really is no different than going away to school in NYC, but it is definitely farther! I don’t think my mom cried when I went to Costa Rica for 12 days in high school, but I do remember her crying when she left me at college for the first time. And without a doubt, there were tears in her eyes when it was time to say good bye at airport security. It was not until that moment that things started to hit me and I knew I really would miss my family for the next 7 weeks. Continue reading

The last few days

I don’t think it’s completely hit me yet that in only a matter of days, I will be saying good-bye to my parents and boarding my flight that will take me to the other side of the world. I will be arriving in Barcelona Monday morning, ready to start my summer journey, and am more than looking forward to just taking it all in and experiencing a new culture. I will first meet the school staff and the peers that I am sharing this journey with. The following day, I will meet the family that I will be living with for the next seven weeks.

The nerves are beginning to hit me, but it won’t be until I am sitting on the night flight to Barcelona that it will truly feel real. But, I am definitely excited and anxious to leave and see what adventures await me in Spain. Continue reading
