I decided to enroll in two free, online blogging courses in hopes of some inspiration and motivation to blog again. I didn’t pick the best timing since I got a new apartment in January and haven’t figured out WiFi yet…but, I figured I’d still take a shot at it. The first topic is to introduce myself to the world. I have been blogging for about two years, so this isn’t my first introduction on my blog, but rather me revisiting who I am and why I decided to blog in the first place.
I’ve changed a lot since I started this blog. Prior to starting this blog, I only used Tumblr, and though I wanted to write and share my thoughts with the online world, it was intimidating at first. I was a very shy person and didn’t know how to express myself. Though I always loved writing, it wasn’t until I found out I would be studying abroad in Barcelona for the summer before my senior year of college that I started this blog. I wanted to document the experiences before and during my trip. I wanted to also share my opinions and ideas with others. Being abroad opened my mind to many new ideas and cultures and I loved having a place to share my thoughts, as well as my many photographs! Continue reading →
I’ve been back home for almost two weeks, and what a crazy two weeks it has been! I had a safe trip home, with a layover in Paris (the literally the most expensive airport I have every been to!). I got through U.S. Customs without any problems, and my bottles of wine and wine glasses all made it safely, so I was pretty happy! Continue reading →
Yesterday marked one month since I have arrived in Barcelona, and today is only two weeks away from the day I leave. It is hard to believe that time has flown by so quickly. Classes are getting close to final projects and final exams. And, while I am looking forward to returning back home, it is a very bittersweet feeling. I have enjoyed it here, and there is still so much to see. I have plans to visit the Sagrada Familia this Saturday, and to go to Girona next Friday. Tomorrow, we are visiting Figueres to see the Dali museum and are visiting Cadaques, which is a part of Costa Brava. Continue reading →
I hope everyone in the States had a great first day of summer. In Barcelona, the summer solstice was technically last night. But, the festival of Sant Joan is how they really begin summer here in Barcelona! Sant Joan is celebrated the night of June 23rd (tonight!). There are a lot of flames and fireworks, as well as a lot of parties on the beach! It is similar to our celebration of the 4th of July. Also, everyone has off from work (and school) on Monday (which is the actual Feast of Sant Joan). I am hoping to join in on the fun tonight! Continue reading →
Yesterday, our group took a day trip to Tarragona, which is about an hour and 40 minutes outside of Barcelona. It is beautiful there! We visited the Roman ruins and learned a lot about the history of Tarragona, which was called Tarraco when the Romans lived there. Continue reading →
I can’t believe that it has already been a full week since I arrived in Barcelona! That means I have less than six weeks to spend here, but time isn’t moving by too quickly. I am taking so many photos (both for myself and for my photography class). Every time I see a beautiful building or statue, I immediately take out my camera!
On Tuesday I got to move in to the home where I will be living during my time here in Barcelona. I live a bit further from the school than the other students, so I’m still figuring out buses, but I can get to and from school very easily. I am just trying to figure out a bus that runs at night for when I meet up with the other students.
The family is very, very nice. The Señora speaks English and many other languages, but of course, I speak to her mostly in Spanish. Her daughter is 11 and really only speaks Spanish. She loves to paint her nails and watch the Disney channel (in Spanish, of course). I painted her nails last night. There is also a babysitter that lives in the apartment, but she went home to Poland for a week. She is closer to my age, and she speaks English, so when she gets back we will definitely hang out sometimes as well. I am very happy with everything! Continue reading →
I wrote this on the long, nine hour (or more) flight to Barcelona during the time we had to wait to depart.
The flight to Barcelona from Atlanta is starting off with a short delay. But nonetheless, in another 9 hours or so, I will be arriving in Barcelona and will begin my summer journey. Although I am one to rarely get homesick, it is still hard to say good byes to family and friends before a long trip. It really is no different than going away to school in NYC, but it is definitely farther! I don’t think my mom cried when I went to Costa Rica for 12 days in high school, but I do remember her crying when she left me at college for the first time. And without a doubt, there were tears in her eyes when it was time to say good bye at airport security. It was not until that moment that things started to hit me and I knew I really would miss my family for the next 7 weeks. Continue reading →
I arrived in Barcelona this morning around 10 a.m., then met my group around 11. I got to the hotel and took a nap since we have free time until orientation at 5:30. I walked down the street to find … Continue reading →
